Shallowater cops resign or get terminated

This editor has learned that all three police officers at Shallowater PD employed by City of Shallowater were either fired or resigned. New officers have since been hired. The new city manager is Michael Neighbors and is former police chief. Mr.Neighbors knowingly violated this editor's civil rights by ordering a Shallowater PD officer to issue an "illegal" criminal trespass order two years ago. Shallowater has had a history of illegal conduct by it's public employees.

LP&L and Texas Tech football tickets

  At last night's marathon City Council meeting, Councilman Klein questioned facts I have posted about LPL. The following numbers are copied straight out of our budget book. The numbers for 12-13 are amended budget numbers and the numbers for 13-14 are initial budget numbers. Both Klein and staff want "apples to apples" comparisons, but that is not possible until the end of ...fiscal year. Compensation number is total compensation plus benefits. Once again, I will not spin the information, just post it for your consideration.

Mr. Klein also attempted to justify LPL's advertising budget, saying they only used a small portion of the budget this year and that they no longer truly advertise. There are 2 months left in this fiscal year and LPL has a RFP out currently for a PR ad campaign. LPL just finished an advertising contract with Texas Tech and is currently looking at another three year ad contract with Tech. LPL receives twelve football tickets as a part of the contract and Dr. Zheng has routinely offered tickets to various council members and board members in the past.

These "football tickets" would have to be reported to the Texas Ethics Commission. Failure to report them would be "ethics violation" for elected officials.
