748-1313 Time,Temp&Weather Could Shut Down

  Ch.13/28 is now putting a 2-week notice of termination at 748-1313 if an advertiser doesn't foot the bill. This service was once done by a local bank some years ago. 13/28 gets a large amount of money in government ad revenue. This is another example of bad management by Greg McAlister at NexStar.

Politics

  Lubbock is not competitive as politics go. Republicans rule the "roost" for the time being. Carl Tepper is now wanting to hold an republican executive committee meeting in Slaton,a "third world" type town. In another event a libertarian turned republican,Brian Thornton,will hold a "liberty" seminar with Mikel Ward as guest speaker at the Mahon Library later this month on a Saturday. In other semi-political news IHateLP&L committee will meet somewhere to discuss how to "vent" their hatred,legally. Those poor souls are from several political parties and their names I will not reveal. Carl Tepper is talking up precinct chair duty hoping someone will fill empty chairs on the executive committee for the (R)epulsive Party of Lubbock. Recall petitions are still in circulation for Floyd Price and other "slimebags" at City Council could see their names on recall petitions in the future.

The little town with "nuthin" to offer

  This weekend a small "one jackass" town will celebrate it's hundredth anniversary. It was going to be named Ripley after the train station owner. Later it was discovered another Ripley existed. That Ripley has since unincorporated. This "one jackass town" is east of Anton,Texas and west of Lubbock,Texas. It saw population growth after WWII when DOD built Reese Airbase. Many federal workers moved to "One Jackass,Texas" and only came to Lubbock to visit relatives,friends or shop. This editor had an aunt,uncle and two cousins grow up in "One Jack Ass,Texas". My father retired on 2.5 acres in 1982 near "One Jackass,Texas" where this editor and WT Free Press is located. The funny thing about "One Jackass,Texas" it took 98 years to get a Dollar General and almost 100 years to get a Sonic Drive-In. Dairy Queen came and went and it took 95 years to get beer,wine&liquor sold in "One Jackass,Texas". The little town with "nuthin" to offer is officially named Shallowater,Texas.

Wal-Mart With Oven Malfunction at Frankford&4th St.

  This editor learned today that the Wal-Mart bakery at 4th&Frankford location has been without it's oven for two weeks. This is the reason those delicious donuts,long johns,etc. have not been stocked. That means that the little donut shop on Frankford near the clinic might have sold out their inventory daily. Sugar addicts are exactly that,addicted.

Power Outage

  Yesterday SPEC and XCEL had a utility pole catch fire and melt some wires. This occurred in New Deal. It turns out the two crews were trying a "backfeed",whatever that is. The end result was over 2,500 customers including this editor had no electricity for two hours. It was about 5PM and many residents came home from work to homes that were dark and couldn't use their AC. Life has become dependent on electricity.

Republican State Party Chairman To Not Seek Re-election

  It was announced that Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri will not be seeking re-election as the state chairman. This was a bit of a shock to those of us in attendance and with knowledge of the history of the Republican Party of Texas. He’s effectively united the party and placed us on solid financial footing as well. Steve’s done a magnificent job as chairman and will be sorely missed.

  I attended a local meeting with Munisteri as guest speaker. He was uninformed about the "guns on campus" being in the state party platform.
